How to seat a wedding
How many seats at a table
A round table of 150 to 180 cm usually seats eight to ten adults at a Flemish wedding: close enough to talk, and service can still get past. Check what the venue hires out. The diameter and the walking space decide the number, not a standard figure.
The top table counts differently. That is where you sit, often with the witnesses and the parents, along one side or both. Count those seats separately, and ask the venue how long the table is.
Who sits with whom
Seat people who know each other together. The two families do not have to be mixed at every table. At many weddings each family sits mostly together, with friends at their own tables. Ask the parents: they know who should not sit next to each other.
Couples and families stay together, unless they ask otherwise. One name here is one seat. "Andrea & Michael" are two guests, or the number of chairs will be wrong.
Children and high chairs
A high chair takes a seat, even if the child does not eat the full menu. The venue counts chairs, not invitations. Seat children with their parents, or at their own table if there are enough of them and someone is watching.
From a sketch to the venue
Download the CSV for the venue manager, a PNG for the family chat, or print the page and save it as a PDF. Names change until the week of the wedding: someone who cancels frees a seat.
In Ringske the seating chart hangs off the guest list, per moment. If someone cancels the dinner, you see it at that table. This page stays in your browser; in Ringske it stays with the list.
Questions
How many guests do you seat at one wedding table?
A round table of 150 to 180 cm usually seats eight to ten adults. Check what the venue hires out: the diameter of the table and the room for service decide it, not a fixed number. At a long top table people sit along one side or both, and that changes the count.
Do you mix the two families?
Not necessarily. At many Flemish weddings each of your families sits mostly together, with friends at their own tables. Mix where people already know each other, or where you want it that way. Ask the parents: they know who should not sit side by side.
Does a child count as a seat?
Yes, for the venue it does. A high chair takes a seat, even if the child does not eat the full menu. Seat children with their parents, or at a children's table if there are enough of them and someone is watching.
Is this seating chart stored anywhere?
Only in this browser, so it is still there when you come back. Nothing goes to our servers, not even names. "Clear the chart" removes it; on a shared computer, best do that when you are done.
How do I take this into Ringske?
Create a free account and put the guest list in it. The template on this site imports as a CSV. The seating chart in Ringske hangs off that list and off a moment, such as the dinner, so a cancellation does not stay quietly on a chair. That seating chart is part of Complete.
Put the seating chart next to your guest list.
In Ringske who is coming and who sits where stay together, also when someone cancels later. Planning is free; the seating chart in the planner is part of Complete.
